  • VAXstation 4000/90

Darko V. saved/gave me the VAXstation 4000/90 model VS49K-AB codename “Cougar”. It supports recent NetBSD which seems like the best option to install, before the GNU/Linux port becomes mature to test it on. I already have a DEMO account at Dave’s identical machine running NetBSD 6 BETA .

  • VAX revival

I am into Retrocomputing. Recently I took an interest in searching for available GNU/Linux distribution for VAX systems. VAX was an instruction set architecture (ISA) developed by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) in the mid-1970s. A 32-bit complex instruction set computer (CISC) ISA, it was designed to extend or replace DEC’s various Programmed Data Processor (PDP) ISAs. The…

  • May 4th, International Day Against DRM

International Day Against DRM –  While DRM has largely been defeated in downloaded music, it is a growing problem in the area of ebooks, where people have had their books restricted so they can’t freely loan, re-sell or donate them, read them without being tracked, or move them to a new device without re-purchasing all of them.…

  • Sage T-shirt

Hurricane Electric is so nice to send all participants who completed their IPv6 test with top/sage level a T-shirt. They allready provide us with Free IPv6 tunnel broker service. A big shout goes also to the Go6 community and RIPE who gave us T-shirts on the last IPv6 summit, this is me wearing it.

  • Slovenian IPv6 Summit

On 12th and 13th of May there was an IPv6 summit in Ljubljana. On the first day I have joined the IPv6 deploy workshop, where two Greek researchers informed us about all the possibilities of IPv6, with good examples written also on slides. On the second day the summit speakers were presenting IPv6 topics and…

  • T-2 mobile plan

This will be interested for Slovenian readers. Recently I switched the mobile plan from Mobitel to T-2. T-2 has an UMTS data coverage in major Slovenian cities for only 10 EUR/month. They provide unmetered data plan through their nodes. When being out of reach their voice signal is being transmitted through Mobitel. They also have…

  • Latitude

I am using a fancy widget from Google, which tells my exact location (of the mobile phone), retrieved over a GPS system and shared through the 3G mobile network. The widget is then displayed on my blog in real-time mode and occasionally updated, when the feature is enabled on the phone. Geeky, eh ?

  • Cisco virgin

Today I bought a new Cisco Catalyst 2950 managed switch. The initial installation was very easy, through the GUI. The switch was ready to use in an hour, and all computers and devices plugged on it now. I am a Cisco virgin, meaning that I have never worked with Cisco equipment earlier nor IOS. I…
