Launched on November 16, 2004, it is funded and operated by <a title=\"IBM\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/IBM\">IBM<\/a> with client software currently available for <a title=\"Microsoft Windows\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Microsoft_Windows\">Windows<\/a>, <a title=\"Linux\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Linux\">Linux<\/a>, <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Mac OS X\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mac_OS_X\">Mac OS\u00c2\u00a0X<\/a>, and <a title=\"FreeBSD\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/FreeBSD\">FreeBSD<\/a> operating systems. Using the idle time of computers around the world, World Community Grid&#8217;s research projects have analyzed aspects of the <a title=\"Human genome\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Human_genome\">human genome<\/a>, <a title=\"HIV\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/HIV\">HIV<\/a>, <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Dengue\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dengue\">dengue<\/a>, <a title=\"Muscular dystrophy\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Muscular_dystrophy\">muscular dystrophy<\/a>, <a title=\"Cancer\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cancer\">cancer<\/a>, <a title=\"Influenza\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Influenza\">influenza<\/a>, <a title=\"Rice\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rice\">rice crop yields<\/a>, and <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Green energy\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Green_energy\">clean energy<\/a>. The organization has so far partnered with over 400 other companies and organizations to assist in its work and has over 73,000 active registered users as of June 2013.
